The 3R 835 consists of a cellulose fiber base which has been impregnated with a protein and glycerine binder. It has exceptionally good sealing properties, it is highly conformable to compensate for distortions in flanges. The material is chemically inert in the presence of petroleum lubricating oils, automotive gasoline, fuels, oils and many organic solvents. It contains an antimicrobial compound to resist fungus organisms. One of the outstanding properties of the 3R835 is its ability to resist the action of gasoline, diesel fuel and heating oils.

The 3R835 is not recommended for water applications in which the gasket is alternately exposed to water and then allowed to dry. If exposed, the material may shrink. Therefore, retorquing of the flange bolts will be required for effective sealing.
